Force 3
June 12 to 14, 1999
Return to "Events"

Taking place right after the release of The Phantom Menace, Force 3 had four guests of honour in attendance. Timothy Zahn and Michael A Stackpole, authors of numerous Star Wars and other novels and stories, Hugh Quarshie, Captain Panaka from The Phantom Menace, and Don Bies, ILM model maker and chief R2-D2 operator.

Held at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood, Victoria (Australia) the convention featured a jam-packed program of panels, banquet, discussions, guest talks, trivia and more.

Force 3 Highlights

Strategically placing signs everywhere proclaiming "Is Don, is good", "Don 3:14" and more, the Unofficial Don Bies Fan Club made itself known to Don and the convention delegates, cheering when ever Don appeared on stage, or was even mentioned. For a more complete telling, visit their web site.

The art show was a big hit, with many entries from many talented individuals, including from plush toys, scratch built models, photographs, and computer generated artwork.

A sub-section of the art show, the Fan Film Festival was an even bigger hit. With some people attending just to see the films, the auditorium was packed. Entrants ranged from first-time film makers making their first attempt at film creation to seasoned veterans with a number of professional productions under their belts. The films and atmosphere was great. For a more complete run down, read the review in the Film Festival section.

The banquet, another favourite feature of Star Walking's conventions was held on the Saturday night. The front stage was themed to look like a Tatooine 'shed' complete with Pod Racer engines and an assortment of busted up droids. The banquet went late into the night and was filled to capacity.
